Mise-en-scene

I decided to comment on the mise-en-scene of the show American Horror Story 1984. I decided to write about this show because these seasons usually have a very moody setting and has a lot of sets, costumes, lighting, and blocking in the show. This show is very easy to write due to the fact that they are known for having a very eerie vibe to their show.
As the first episode starts the lighting is low-key which gives it a very eerie vibe and creates suspense as the camera moves throughout the setting that the scene is taking place. With this type of vibe the three characters that are in this scene start to hear noises coming from outside their room and start to get worried that there is someone coming towards them. In this scene music is added in this scene so that it creates suspense as someone comes into their room and stabs the guy in the neck. The killer that entered the room has now killed everyone that was in there and goes from a very low-key lighting to an introduction of the show that has a lot of lighting coming through which is a high-key lighting.
As the introduction finishes it starts off by introducing the main characters while they are at a class dancing in the 80's workout clothes.Their clothing (costumes)  can represent the timing that this show is taking place in. This scene is well lit but they increased a lot of the shadows to get a more gloomy effect. After they are done working out it transitions into a showerhead that is on and the setting has now moved to the gyms showers. The next scene is a shallow space setting in the gym showers where you see Brooke and Montana having a conversation next to each other and they are talking about the class that they came out of. After this scene it switches to a deep space setting where you can see both of the characters talking and more people walking around them. This helps the scene give it more depth rather than just focusing on the two characters talking.
All of the effects and moods that I have been talking about helps build up the suspense and also helps set the mood. The costumes also help selp the mood by letting the viewer know that it isn't something that someone would wear in 2019. It helps us understand the vibe and type of clothings that people used to wear in the past.
