Film Opening Research #1 - Skyfall

1)How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?
Throughout the Skyfall opening Part 1 & Part 2(Linked) there isn't any titles until you get to the opening credits(Link 3) which shows the name of the production company and the main actor Daniel Craig and then shows the title of the movie “Skyfall”. After the Main title is displayed, it then credits other people that were involved in the making of the movie.

2)What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
Some images that are prominent in the opening sequence is the actual ocean and James Bond continuously falling.

3)What connotations do the images carry?
When the main character is constantly in a falling motion it makes people wonder where he is going and will end up. There is also so much going on in the ocean and red is also a prominent color that is shown in the opening scene.

4)How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?
Through symbolic codes the setting that the opening scene is in is at first bright but dulls as he falls down. There is a constant element of having shadows and the color red. For technical codes the opening scene is constantly zooming into and object and showing a different scene/item that may be important farther into the move.

5)How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?
The film establishes an enigma by making the viewer constantly think about what could possibly happen next. Before the opening credit scene started the movie started out with a very suspenseful chase where it leads to James jumping into the water which then leads to him continuously falling.

Technology has been used effectively throughout the years to make films more interesting. Certain Angles give shots a more interesting feel or vibe and can represent emotions that aren’t necessarily shown by the setting or actor on screen. The way certain shots are edited together also help combine different shots without just placing them next to each other.

Film Opening Research #2 - Wonder Woman

1)How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?
In the opening scene that was available to me there wasn't any titles that were shown in the actual youtube video clip and only shows where it leads up to the main title scene.

2)What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
An image that was prominent in the opening sequence was the Earth in the beginning of the scene which had clouds popping out instead of a regular globe. Another prominent image that was shown in the opening scene was the black brief case.

3)What connotations do the images carry?
The setting in this scene was very important due to the fact that throughout the movie the characters are in a different time period. The black brief case in this scene was seen carried out of a black car and had bars. This represented that whatever was in the brief case was very important and had a lot to do with the rest of the movie.

4)How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?
The genre is reinforced through symbolic codes by making it seem like the film is a regular modern movie but once she opens the brief case it shows an old picture and then zooms into it and then shows young Diana running away from home to go see the Women practice. After it zoomed into her it was established that the setting has changed to older times.

5)How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?
The film establishes an enigma by showing how young Diana was when she was older and then showing her story about when she was younger. When it shows young Diana it shows that she is strong and brave. People get hooked onto how young Diana will turn out and how she will be different by just how people see her in the opening scene.

6)What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
In this film I believe that they used how interested Diana was into fighting and wanting to protect her family and everything that she is surrounded by. In the film you can see women fighting which will make the audience eager to find out what they are preparing for.

7)How has technology been used effectively? You might want to consider camera angles, transitions and editing techniques.
In this film technology was used effectively by being able to edit more elements into the movie and making every element connect. Camera angles in this film is also important because it could also show how strong or weak a character is during the film. The creation of audio and adding it into the movie can also enhance certain sound effects. With the advancement of technology it has improved filmmakers to grasp the audiences attention and get them to want to keep watching.
